: BUF to DEN
Frontier Airlines is a fantastic option for a cheap non-stop flight for a weekend. We pack light so that we do not have to pay for luggage. I highly recommend getting the Discount Den membership as the savings practically covers the membership.
Savings Lesson: Follow that cheap flight as if your life depends on it!
Make a list of destinations that you are interested in visiting at all times. Then when a random Tuesday flight deal strikes, you know exactly what city you are looking for. It pays to subscribe to your favorite airline’s email list.
Travel Lesson: The Car Rental Desk person is not always your friend, at least at Advantage Car Rental in Denver International Airport.
Avoid getting tricked into purchasing an upgrade by your car rental company. They will scare you into thinking that a regular compact vehicle will not make it through Colorado highways. As long as you are not off-roading (which would require a specialty vehicle probably), a compact car is sufficient. They will confuse you with elevation and incline numbers but trust me, we drove with our rented crossover next to regular compact cars on many roads with no problem.
Places we visited:
Rocky Mountain National Park- Trail: Glacier Gorge Junction Trailhead
Peak to Peak Scenic Byway from Ester Park to Nederland
Town of Idaho Springs
Town of Georgetown
Hotel:
Spring Hill Suites by Marriott Westminster
Very spacious, close to the airport
Halfway between Denver and Boulder (which is what we were looking for)
